Introduction
Welcome to the site of

AnneAppraiser

I'm an appraiser of quilts and other textiles certified by the American Quilter's Society. I have appraised antique, contemporary and art quilts, wearable art, coverlets and other textile items for museums, organizations, quilt shows, shops, antique malls and for private individuals throughout the United States. I have also judged at a number of major and local quilt shows.

In 1997, I co-founded Repiecers of the Past (a quilt history/quilt restoration study group) with my good friend, Kathi Reyes. The group continues to meet monthly.

My quilt related articles have appeared in Quilter's Newsletter, Traditional Quiltworks, American Quilter, Miniature Quilt Ideas, Lady's Circle Patchwork Quilts, McCall's Quilting, and Quilting Today. In 1994, Beverly Dunivent, my quilt appraisal partner and I co-authored a research paper on kit quilts that was published in the annual American Quilt Study Group journal, Uncoverings. We have also co-authored a book on kit quilts that is currently under consideration for publication.

I am a member of the American Quilter's Society, the Professional Association of Appraisers of Quilted Textiles (current Historian), National Quilting Association, and American Quilt Study Group.

I am available to travel for lectures, workshops, or appraisal days.

Classes and Workshops
Classes and Workshops:
  • Quilt Dating Workshop

Learn to recognize textiles from the early 1800s to the present and how to date your quilts accordingly. We will also look at quilting styles, finishing, patterns, and other 'clues' that help provide a time frame for the quilts.

  • Quilt Evaluation Class Preparation

Learn how appraisers perform evaluations of antique, contemporary, and art quilts, wearable art and related textiles. This evaluation class is intended to help you gain confidence toward taking the AQS Certified Quilt Apraisal class or to gain some of the experience you need to become an Appraiser. We will cover some basics on quilt dating, the differences between fair market or insurance values, and how to determine them. Learn some of the legalities of appraising, issues of ethics, and how to promote your work, along with many other subjects related to performing appraisals. Note: This is NOT the American Quilter's Society Appraisal Class. If you are planning on becoming a certified quilt appraiser, we highly recommend you take the AQS class following this preparation.
